Why USF?...
Um not really…Actually, I saved a lot of money by choosing to go to
USF. But I’ll admit, USF appeared to have everything I might need if I
wished to be successful. However, the catch is, it was up to me to
pursue those dreams and make it a reality. What I’m trying to say is
that USF is like a field of many crops, but it’s up to me to go pick the
crops that I need to move on. |

Living the campus life ...
Yeah, it was fun! I lived at Castor during the summer through the
Freshmen Summer Institute and also at Delta. I loved Argos and Andros.
But now that I’m off campus, I really miss it. |

Student activities ...
People always say that I am always busy doing something…you know what,
I thing they may be right. I am a part of
Minority Pre-Professional
Science Society (MPSS) and our main goal is to promote minority student
interest and facilitate students in health professional careers. My
experiences as a secretary and as a fellow classmate have enabled me to
grow into an active leader amongst my peers on campus. I’ve been able to
network with many professional leaders and become a mentor to many.
I am
also actively involved in Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE). With the
saying, “Doctors make the worst businessmen”, I set out to prove this
statement false by joining this business oriented student organization. SIFE’s main goal is to educate and assist fellow students and
entrepreneurs on campus as well as in the community about the business
world through acts of voluntary service and projects. In only its second
year, SIFE has already been noted as the best new student organization
at USF, winning the SIFE 2006-2007 regional competition, and placing in
the top 60 teams in the 2006-2007 national competition from almost 1,000 SIFE teams nationwide! SIFE has instilled the qualities of being an
entrepreneur in me and has encouraged me to take risks when pursuing
success.
And last but not least, I am also an active member of a Gospel
Vocal singing group, God’s Messengers. We have been singing together for
over 9 years and are becoming popular among many churches in Florida,
including the Seventh-Day Adventists community. If you’ve heard of Boys
to Men, then yeah, we’re kind of like that. Our aim is to spread the
Gospel through Acappella music. We sing in English, French, Creole and
even Spanish. Since I am a performer, I wouldn’t mind performing at your
next event. If interested, let me know and I’ll see what we can do.

Activities ...
I like hanging out with my friends from the student organizations like
Minority Pre-Professional Science,
Club Creole,
Campus Advent, Students
In Free Enterprise and the Honors College. Since studying is essential,
I love studying at the Medical School’s library. It’s so quiet you could
hear your own heart beat. But when I’m stressed from studying I head
over to the gym to work out. |
 |
Professors ...
Overall they’re good, but tough. Many of them are
passionate and a few of them are hard to understand. But nonetheless,
among my favorites are Dr. Johnny El-Rady, Dr. Gerald Woods, Ashok
Upadhyaya and Dr. Allison Cleveland. |
 |
Transitioning ...
USF helped to ease my transition between high school and college life
through the Freshmen Summer Institute. I started my collegiate career in
the summer and got a head start on college life. But even better, it was
so fun and the best experience I’ve ever had. The people I met there
became life-long lasting friends. |

Research ...
I've been fortunate to be recognized as a
McNair Scholar. Through the
McNair's research program I am currently researching under the
mentorship of Dr. Bernard Lee Green at the
Moffitt Cancer Center. Our
research is focused on the health disparities that exist among minority
populations in the US. We are interested in understanding how high
levels of stress may influence health habits in African American men and
their outcomes.
In effort to eliminate health disparities, many studies have explored
their proposed causes. Unfortunately, medical officials are still
uncertain to what exactly generates health disparities. In our study, we
simply hypothesize that stress is the underlying factor for health
disparities. By associating stress and health behaviors, our study will
be one of the few that looks as stress as a major contributor to the
underlying cause to health disparities. Ultimately, we hope that this
study will serve to discourage health disparities among minority
populations. |

Multiculturalism ...
There is a common expression that says, “Seeing is believing.” USF
allows me to do just that. I am able to mingle with all kinds of people
and I like experiencing for myself the different cultures they offer. |
 |
Metropolitan ...
Lucky for me I don’t have to go far to find excellent institutions.
Since I am interested in practicing medicine, I hope to attend
USF’s Medical School and I am also involved in the work that is done at the
H. Lee
Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. Their works often receive national
recognition for major breakthroughs in science and the quality of care that they
administer have made them a favorite among patients. I would love to work in an
environment such as this. |
 |
Global ...
So has USF prepared me to think globally? DEFINITELY! When I first
came to USF, I was naïve in my perceptions of the world. But USF showed me the significance of
looking at the big picture and considering all of my options. If it wasn’t for
USF, perhaps I would have never met all of these great people, experienced the
diversity from around the world, and experienced the college life. I am grateful
for my time spent for at USF, and I am looking forward to being alumni that
bleeds green and gold. Go Bulls! |
