Year:

Class of 2008

Hometown: West Palm Beach, Florida

Major:

Biomedical Sciences

High School: Royal Palm Beach High School

Career goal:

Medical School

Favorite campus hangout:

"The Wall" located in front of the Library and the Greek Life Office in the basement of the Marshall Center.

Favorite Building on Campus The Marshall Center. I'm always there - either hanging out, attending meetings, or working at the SGCS lab.

Best place to eat:

Tijuana Flats (off-campus)

Favorite campus-wide event:

Multicultural Welcome Week – There are so many different events taking place that there is something for everyone. Many of them offer free food, which is definitely a plus for college students. My favorite annual events include Round-Up, the Spice Up Indian Dinner, and Mock Martini.

Favorite campus tradition: Greek Week – Although the various sororities and fraternities on campus value different interests, they all have the common beliefs of sisterhood/brotherhood, academics, and service. As there are nearly 40 Greek organizations at USF, it’s amazing to see them collaborate. Greek Week truly allows organizations that normally would not interact do so and therefore, provides a genuine sense of unity among Greeks at the university.

Top three campus activities:

1. Homecoming 2. Patio Tuesdays 3. Getting involved

Car, bus or bike:

Car. I live off-campus so I drive.

5 things I love about USF:

1. Diversity
2. Opportunities
3. Resources
4. Students
5. Location

Why USF?...
After considering a few schools, I decided that USF best suited me. The school not only offers a great program for pre-medical students, it is a top-ranking research university. There are also many opportunities available for students to get involved and the location is ideal. It is far enough away from my hometown for me to be independent but close enough for me to go home and visit my family.

First Day...
My first day was a little overwhelming as it is for many freshmen. I was extremely worried about finding my classes and taking the right Bull Runner route. However, it was easy to approach other students for help. I don’t think I could have survived my first day without the friendliness that I was shown. Many of the students that I met on my first day are now some of my closest friends.

Living the campus life ...
I lived on campus for my first two years of college. I was even one of the few freshmen that was privileged to be the first residents of Cypress Apartments when they opened. Living on campus presented me with the opportunity to become more involved and take advantage of on-campus activities.

Student activities ...
As a freshman, I wanted to become active on campus because of my lack of involvement in high school. I am currently serving as the president of Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc., which is my main extracurricular focus. I have also been involved with the Students of India Association, Student Government Senate, Premed-AMSA, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Volunteer USF, Campus Activities Board, and Polis 2007. I love getting involved, meeting people, and staying busy. USF has so many opportunities for students to get involved. The hardest part is deciding where to get started!

Activities ...
After a look at any bulletin board on campus, it is easy to learn that there is some kind of event taking place on-campus everyday. From small-scale events held by student organizations to campus-wide programs hosted by CAB, there is always something going on for me to attend with friends. Off-campus, I enjoy going to the movies, shopping, and just hanging out.

Transitioning ...
The transition from high school to college was fairly easy for me. I quickly found my niche by getting involved and meeting students with similar interests. Living in an all-freshmen residence hall and taking the University Experience class also allowed me to meet others dealing with the same issue.

Multiculturalism ...
Being of Indian decent, it was comforting to see so many students of similar ethnic backgrounds. During my freshmen year, I joined a South Asian-based sorority, Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, which allowed me to further acquaint myself with my culture. There are many multicultural student organizations at USF that aid in allowing students to meet others like them or create awareness by hosting culturally-educational events and programs.

Global ...
Due to USF’s diversity, I have met students and faculty from all walks of life. The assortment of individuals has allowed me to gain a new perspective on the world. Learning how to work with different people and learning about various cultures has also helped me.
