Why USF...
I was not pleased with my hometown college and decided to transfer. I
heard some good things about the college from family members who are USF
alumni. So, within a short time of making the decision to transfer, I
applied to USF.

First day...
My first class was American Sign Language. Although I was nervous while
sitting in class, I was glad to be at USF. I was confident that my years at USF would be pleasant,
exciting and edifying. The class was well organized and went by smoothly. The room was completely silent.
My heart was racing and my hands were shaky as the roll was being called. My instructor called roll by
finger-spelling the names. We had to recognize our name and raise our hand once it was spelled.
I made sure I paid close attention so I wouldn’t miss my name. I recognized my name and raised
my hand hoping the name spelled was mine. It was my name and I was no longer nervous.

Living the campus life...
I have found the professors to be challenging, inspiring, and
helpful. I am comforted by their genuine care and dedication to my
success. Dr. Carolyn Ellis, Dr. Art Bochner, Dr. Navita James, and Dr.
Cheryl Rodriguez have been incredibly supportive in different ways,
teaching me the power of (my) voice, (my) narrative, and black women. |
 |
Activities ...
I enjoy going to the various events hosted by the Campus Activites
Board. Bulls Nite Out is my favorite event. I work on campus and during
my lunch break I like to go to Marshall Center Underground to eat and
relax. While off campus, my friends and I like to go bowling and to the
movies. However, most of our time and money is spent at Wal-Mart. |
 |
Student Activities...
During my first year at USF I volunteered with the Homecoming
Superbull X. The following year I joined the marketing committee for
Dance Marathon. I have also been an active member of Public Relations
Student Society of America (PRSSA). Dance Marathon is the largest
student-run philanthropy on campus. I help raise money for All
Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. My involvement in Dance Marathon
has allowed me to meet other students who share a love for helping
children.

Professors ...
My favorite professor is Dr. Watson in the School of Mass
Communications. I took her Communications Law class over the summer. She
made it very interesting and fun. At the end of the semester our class
had a mock trial and my group won our case.

Metropolitan ...
Attending USF allows me more exposure to the field
of public relations. There are many PR agencies and non-profit
organizations in Tampa that hire USF students as interns. The
internships can lead to permanent positions. After graduation I plan to
work in Tampa and apply to graduate school at USF.

 |
Multiculturalism ...
Moving to Tampa was a big culture shock for me. My hometown is not very
diverse. I wasn’t use to living in such a culturally diverse community.
Nevertheless, I benefit from the cultural diversity at USF because I
have met and made friends with people from different cultures. I
enjoying learning about the different cultures I am exposed to at USF
and in the Tampa area.

 |
Global ...
USF has taught me to be more concerned about what is happening around
the world. It is good to know what is happening globally because it can
affect me and my peers. Also, I appreciate the Oracle staff for
including world news in every edition. I enjoy being a USF Bull. I have
learned and experienced more here than the college I was attending
before.
