Academic Success Predictors
Our data indicates that applicants meeting certain criteria are more likely to be successful in college, particularly in the freshman year. Your students are encouraged to use these factors as a guideline to gain admission and yield success at the college level, especially at a competitive research extensive institution like USF! Beyond high school GPA and test scores, those applicants meeting the criteria below receive additional weighting as we review their USF application for a potential offer of admission:
- AP, IB or AICE Coursework (3 or more courses)
- Additional math course(s) beyond Algebra II
- Additional natural science course(s) (with lab) beyond the state of Florida minimum requirements
- Additional foreign language course(s) beyond two sequential years of the same language
- An SAT Writing score of at least 550 or ACT English/Writing score of at least 24
- College level dual enrollment coursework (2 or more courses)
- A postsecondary GPA of 3.0 or higher in dual enrollment coursework attempted
Other factors which may be considered include grade trend, personal statements and students' family educational background.
